Is Lip Sculpting & Augmentation treatment safe?

We use only CE-marked, hyaluronic-acid-based dermal fillers from established manufacturers. Hyaluronic acid is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in your skin, which means it is well tolerated and, importantly, can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if ever needed. Safety comes from the injector as much as the product: your treatment is carried out by a medically qualified practitioner with detailed knowledge of facial anatomy, working with sterile technique in a clinical setting. We keep hyaluronidase and an emergency protocol on site as standard.

What are the contraindications of Lip Sculpting & Augmentation treatment?

We will not proceed with lip sculpting & augmentation where treatment is not clinically appropriate. Contraindications include: pregnancy or breastfeeding; known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine; active skin infection, cold sore outbreak or inflammation in the treatment area; autoimmune or connective tissue disease that is active or poorly controlled; blood-thinning medication, which increases bruising risk and needs discussion first; recent dental work or planned vaccination within two weeks; unrealistic expectations, or body dysmorphic disorder. This list is not exhaustive, your full medical history, medications and previous treatments are reviewed at consultation, and we will always tell you honestly if we think you should wait or not proceed at all.

What are the possible side effects of Lip Sculpting & Augmentation treatment?

Side effects are usually mild and short-lived. The most common are: swelling and tenderness for two to seven days; bruising, which can last up to a fortnight and is easily covered with make-up after 24 hours; small lumps or firmness that usually settle, and can be massaged or adjusted at review; rarely, infection, nodule formation or vascular occlusion, the reason we treat only in a medical setting with hyaluronidase on hand; marked swelling for 48 to 72 hours, which is normal for lips; reactivation of cold sores in patients prone to them, tell us in advance so we can prescribe antiviral cover. Serious complications are rare in a medical setting. Aftercare is simple: keep the area clean and avoid make-up over the injection points for 12 hours; avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms and sunbeds for 48 hours; avoid alcohol for 24 hours to reduce bruising and swelling; sleep slightly elevated for the first two nights if swelling is noticeable; do not massage or press the area unless we have specifically asked you to; avoid dental work, facials and laser treatments for two weeks. We provide written aftercare instructions after every appointment and review you at two weeks so we can check the result together.
